Newborn Session Q&A
Here are some of my most frequently asked questions:
When should I book?
I recommend booking your session after your 20 week anatomy scan. This allows plenty of time for planning your session, ordering anything special you may be missing, and guarantees you a spot on the calendar. Sessions are booked by due date month but calendar dates are not scheduled until after your little one arrives. I only book a limited number of sessions per month to allow for scheduling flexibility. Last minute bookings are welcome as well, but availability cannot be guaranteed. Whether you are a pre-booked session or a last minute addition, it is important to let me know as soon as you can that your little one has arrived so that we can get you on the calendar.
What age frame are newborn sessions done?
Most of the newborn sessions you will see on my page are done between 5-12 days of age. I have found this to be the "prime" window as far as flexibility and posing. Sessions with older newborns are possible but expectations should be adjusted to include more wrapping and natural positions than seen in my portfolio.
Do you have a studio or do you travel?
I do not travel with the exception of maternity and birth sessions. All newborn sessions are done in my studio. I operate out of my home in a small but efficient studio space that offers a variety of options for your session.
Do I need to bring props for my session?
I've got you covered! Petite Cherie Photography is dedicated to creating timeless, quality, organic, and fine art newborn images. I don't allow the use of certain items like crochet outfits, tutus, store bought headbands and outfits. Family heirloom, hobby, and profession related items (such as helmets, dog tags, grandma's blanket, musical instruments, antlers, etc) are welcomed but will be used at the photographer's creative discretion. Please book me based on your love of my style and allow me to create artwork that will last on your walls for generations.
What should I do with siblings during the session?
Often times the siblings of my newborns are still toddler aged. The studio is small, boring, hot, and newborn sessions run long. Keeping toddlers contained, quiet, and happy can be quite a challenge. For this reason I ask that a family member takes siblings home after family poses which will be done at the beginning of the session. I will then move on to the newborn portion of your session. I recommend bringing bribes such as snacks or even turning a favorite tv show on your phone as they often are the key to a successful session.
We want to book but we're on a budget?
Not to worry! Petite Cherie Photography offers a package for every budget as well as payment plans. I will work with you to ensure that you can document the quickest phase of your child's life. No one should miss out on those priceless memories.
Does a newborn session fee include prints, product, or digitals?
My newborn session fees are all inclusive. There are no hidden charges or things to buy later. Each package comes with the full size digital images from your session. While I do sell and encourage purchasing prints and products through my lab it is not required.
When and how will I receive my images?
Turnaround time is approximately 2 weeks. Once your gallery has been edited you will receive a link via email with a download pin. I provide digital galleries of my images that download straight to your computer.
What can I do to ensure a successful session?
